Primitive and earthy, this awesome pendant necklace looks like some ancient artifact that was just unearthed at an archeological dig. Rough fossil-like rhyolite stones look like something from the age of the dinosaurs. Combined with the earthy wood beads, the exotic handmade African woven brass and the soulful hand-carved bone pendant, this composition is reminiscent of a jungle from prehistoric times.
I designed this one-of-a-kind necklace in similar fashion to my original Jungle necklace and this is kind of like an ancient version of that more modern piece.
Rhyolite is a volcanic rock with the same basic chemical composition as granite. As it cools quickly from a molten state, this unique stone has wonderful texture and color banding and crystalline occlusions giving it the appearance of fossilized rock. The beautiful color scheme ranges from mossy greens and browns to gray and white with even some clear inclusions. Because of the stones natural state, expect some holes and rough edges. See the pictures for details. Rhyolite is said to light the fire of creativity, bringing about change, variety and progress in ones life. Wow…wouldn’t that be great!
The exotic and ethnic woven brass beads are made in a village in Africa near Kumasi, Ghana. They are made, one by one, by weaving wax "wires" into a form, investing them in clay, burning out the wax and pouring molten brass into the mold. Each mold is hand made making each bead slightly different from the next. Although these appear to be ancient beads, they are actually newly made in Ghana. These amazing works of art have so much flavor and soul with their rough and inexact appearance.
The giant hand-carved pendant is 90mm in length and definitely fits into the whole dinosaur, fossil, prehistoric theme. This unique feather was most likely carved from water buffalo bone in Indonesia. It is then antiqued in order to obtain the naturally rustic and primitive look.
This intriguing pendant necklace closes with a brass lobster clasp and can adjust from 16 to 20" in length using the attached antique brass hammered chain. You may also be interested in the Saki Shibu Bracelet that complements this necklace.
