Made to accompany the enchanting necklace of the same name, this captivating bracelet breathes the soul of the Orient with stunningly vivid colors that conjure images of ancient Buddhist pagoda-style temples situated in beautiful landscaped Japanese gardens. Gorgeous green turquoise, antique carved bone and textured red sponge coral all unite in this harmonious design creating an unmistakably Asian-style artisan bracelet.
I knew I wanted to name this bracelet and necklace set after some sort of pagoda style building that I was picturing in my head, and upon research, I found the perfect place. Located in the city of Uji, in the Kyoto prefecture of Japan, there is a 1000 year old Buddhist temple named Byodoin. This temple was originally built in 998 A.D. as a villa for a powerful family from the Fujiwara Clan and then later converted to a temple. It has become a Historic Monument with its Amida Buddha statue, Phoenix Hall and several other items being Japanese National Treasures. And its image can be seen on the 10 yen coin.
Most of the pictures of the temple are dark and it is hard to see any remaining color or gardens, etc. But oddly enough a full-size replica of Byodoin temple has been built in The Valley of the Temples in Oahu, Hawaii to celebrate the arrival of Japanese cultures. Built in 1968, this reconstruction is complete with traditional Japanese gardens, koi ponds, Buddha statues, and other culturally significant elements. The pictures of this Byodoin model with an awesome backdrop of the Ko’olau Mountains is the exact picture I had in my mind when creating this uniquely elegant bracelet and necklace set.
The red sponge coral, carved antique bone and green turquoise are all imported from China. Adding a little modernity to the piece, the silver beads at the ends are actually terra cotta beads from Greece that are kiln-fired, coated with 100% pure silver and antiqued. Closing with a beautifully detailed sterling silver toggle clasp, this bracelet will be made to fit your wrist size.
